 Community Access Center (CAC)

Our directory was designed to highlight local clinicians and mental health practices, providing easy access to their contact information. Black Therapists of Central PA administrators celebrate professional individuality we do not schedule on behalf of clinicians. Each provider's contact information is linked to their profile below.

To locate and vet clinicians, we utilize a three-point-contact system to connect with identified clinicians in our service area.

  1. Mail-chimp letter with provider information form sent to their email address.
  2. Formal letter sent to clinicians' business address.
  3. Phone calls to identified clinicians.

We continue to grow; this is by no means an exhaustive list, but it indicates available supportive providers. If a provider is not listed here, some reasons include they may choose to be a member of our private clinicians' group only, unaware, or finally prefer not to be listed or participate we respect their wishes and celebrate the work they do to contribute to our community.

Black Therapists of Central PA vets clinicians presented on our website. Furthermore, Black Therapists of Central PA does not endorse clinicians we reserve the right to remove any clinician proven to engage in misconduct and accept no responsibility for their wrongdoing.

  • Iris Bowen, LCSW
    Outpatient Psychotherapy

Therapy can be such an overwhelming process to get started with, especially when you may also be struggling with ADHD, trauma symptoms, or anxiety that make everyday tasks feel monumental. For marginalized people in particular, feeling safe and truly seen by their therapist may be particularly challenging. As a Black, queer, neurodivergent therapist with 10 years experience, my approach is relational, strengths-based, person-centered, affirming, and anti-oppressive. Together we'll implement accessible, functional strategies to help you close the gap between the life you're living and the life you envision for yourself.

Utilizing cognitive and somatic techniques from modalities such as EMDR, ACT, Brainspotting, and IFS, I can assist in breaking cycles of harm you may feel trapped in. If you find yourself stuck in fight-or-flight mode, have trouble identifying your needs, or if you're just tired of struggling with your anxiety: You are NOT alone, and change is possible.

Shoutout to you for making moves to heal! Let's continue that work together by examining how to create a vibrant, meaningful, value-aligned life. A life where you harness the vitality to stand in your power, the stamina to maintain boundaries that support thriving rather than just surviving, and the courage to show up as your authentic self. Licensed Clinical Social Worker

Liz Buford, LCSW, has over ten years of experience in the mental health field. She began her career in Pennsylvania working as a mental health technician and live-in care provider for children with dual diagnoses. Upon her “big move” to Florida in 2010, Liz began working as a therapist in the juvenile justice system, where she remained for over nine years. She gained tremendous experience working with children with behavioral problems, sexual concerns, learning disabilities, severe trauma, and an array of other mental health issues. Promoted several times after her supervisors saw she also excelled at social work’s administrative and leadership side. This led to her earning the title of Clinical Director at a large residential facility in Orlando.

In 2019, she believed it was time to find new ways to serve. She became the Director of Behavioral Health at a local federally qualified health center, where she helped develop the newly added department and provided therapy services to children and adults. With the arrival of Covid-19, Liz dedicated her time on the front lines to supporting clients through unprecedented mental stressors.

In 2021, she and her husband decided it was time to branch out as entrepreneurs. She is now triple-licensed in Florida, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania, providing care via telehealth across all three states.

    Licensed Professional Counselor, PhD

The human experience is complex and layered. It is often taken for granted and underestimated. In our profession, it is a privilege to have access to such complexities; a privilege to witness the moment when despair transforms into hope and futility no longer exists. Humans are vast and exploration is limitless. As a psychologist, I would be remiss by engaging my work without intentionality, humility, and culturally appropriate care. As someone with marginalized identities, I find value in reflecting in the moment with clients. I use a multicultural counseling model to address the unique needs of clients of color and LGBTQ+ folks.

I have a particular focus in individuals who may struggle to trust a system that has historically oppressed marginalized individuals. This includes areas such as: race/ethnicity, sexual orientation, and gender identity development; socio-political reformative justice; ADHD concerns, relationship issues; anxiety and depression.
Please feel free to reach out if you are looking for someone who will hold your pain and honor your process. Seeking therapy is a reflection of your resilience and desire to evolve. Therapy is an opportunity to learn about self and the powerful ways that you exist as a human in a world that has challenged parts of who you are. Let’s do some work together.

  • Darryl McClish, M.S., B.S.
    Licensed Professional Counselor

I am here to help you to believe in your abilities! My name is Darryl McClish, and I graduated from Lebanon Valley College in 2017 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Psychology, and I am now a pre-licensed clinician with a Master’s in Professional Counseling.

Throughout my life I have been interested in listening to others as they discuss their struggles and hardships. Helping others in this manner has always come naturally to me, and it is rewarding to be able to serve others in this capacity.  I made the determination that I would pursue a career in counseling during my senior year of high school.  Since I made that decision, I have done everything in my power to prepare myself to serve others utilizing several tools such as reflective listening, various modalities, and cultural competence.

In both New Jersey, where I grew up, and Pennsylvania, where I have lived for most of my adult life, I have learned from my experiences working with children and families. Through different employment opportunities, I have had the opportunity to interact with many adolescents and work with them to understand their stories. They spoke about their lives and explained what decisions led them to where they are now. While working at a juvenile detention center and rehabilitation center as a residential aide, I felt limited in my position as I was unable to provide the type of treatment the adolescents needed.  This experience fueled my desire to continue my education and training to prepare myself to help other individuals like them, increasing my motivation to become a counselor. Through my job in the court system, I worked with many young adults who just needed someone to talk to and a resource to help them process through difficult decisions. I strive to go beyond what the job requires of me as I have found what I am passionate about and that is helping young adults enhance their futures, because I know that there are no limits to what they can achieve.

I am deeply motivated to help others recognize their potential and become the person they want to be. I seek to help young adults and adolescents in need. I will be the listening ear and the voice of reason needed, and I aim to listen to and support others as they navigate the turbulent waters of life. https://www.strengthloveandmot...

I received an Associate’s Degree in Human Services from Elizabethtown College in 2013, followed by a Bachelor’s degree in 2015.

Born and raised in Harrisburg PA, I am no stranger to local community resources and have worked over the last several years with local nonprofits in this city. The common goal was to serve those in the community who are most in need and vulnerable. Personally, I feel that my passion to help others is what drives me and the key factor to personally commit to a professional career in helping individuals achieve self-empowerment and obtaining the necessary skills and goals towards healing and growth from a therapeutic perspective.

  • Kayla Evelyn-Cunningham
Master's Degree Forensic Psychology - Doctoral Candidate
    Pre-licensed clinician

We may not always be able to change a situation, but we can help transform your perspective of your circumstances.  Hello! My name is Kayla Evelyn-Cunningham, and my master’s in forensic psychology.  I am currently pursuing my doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology.  I am a pre-licensed clinician accumulating hours for licensure.

I attended the illustrious Morgan State University for my bachelor’s in psychology. At Morgan State, I was involved in many organizations, but one in particular, focused on confidence. This organization allowed me to travel to numerous schools, mental health facilities, and other settings to speak to individuals about self-confidence, self-motivation, and self-compassion. Since then, I began shaping my practices around the importance of an individual’s sense of self. I have found it lays the foundation for every aspect and element within their lives.

My passion in the field of mental health grew immensely in 2015, when I began working in various correctional facilities and detention centers to help those within the incarcerated population. Since then, I have also gained much experience working with individuals who have experience with substance abuse, juveniles within the school systems, and many other individuals of all ages in various therapeutic settings. I interned for a year working with highly experienced clinicians who helped guide and shape my skill set to properly assist those who experienced trauma, depression, anxiety, bipolar, and borderline personality disorder.

My focus when facilitating groups or individual sessions is self-empowerment and challenging negative perspectives with more positive outlooks. Life can sometimes feel overpowering, and obligations that need to be met can also seem unbearable at times. Still, I believe there will always be some good in what may all seem bad at the moment. I have found my theoretical orientation - cognitive behavioral therapy has helped many of my previous clients reduce stress levels, cope with untimely life changes such as relationships and other losses, and ultimately feel more grounded within their circumstances. We may not always be able to change a situation, but we can help transform your perspective of your circumstances. I look forward to assisting you! https://www.strengthloveandmot...
